We visited Branch Brook Campground in Thomaston CT the weekend of July 23. As we left home as usual it was pouring rain. Seems like we start most of our trips in wet weather. We pulled into the campground, which is conveniently located on Route 6 (about 2 miles from Route 8) in Thomaston CT. Check in was quick and painless. The campground was far from filled to capacity and we were told to take our pick of about a half a dozen sites, then inform the office the following morning of where we were. The woman who checked us in was both friendly and helpful.
The sites (listed in Woodalls as average of 50 feet wide) were a bit more cramped than we expected. The only saving grace was about half the sites were permanent set ups, and most of the owners were not there for this particular weekend. The hookups were convenient and easily accessible. Our site was right on Branch Brook, a small meandering streamlet good for fishing. One area was designated as a fishing pond, and though we didn't do any fishing, we were told it was adequately stocked. The camp "store" was mostly repair parts and accessories for RV's. There was no grocery that I could see, which can be inconvenient when you need some small item that was forgotten. The restroom (only one set of ladies and mens) was located at the entrance to the campground which from our site (the far end) was about a 10 minute walk making it very inconvenient. I remarked to one of my fellow campers that a campground this size really should have more than one restroom to which he replied that a majority of the sites were set up as permanent with sewer hookups, so this was not an issue for a lot of the campers. There is not much to do in the surrounding area with the exception of a train museum in Thomaston which we passed on. It is about a 30 miute drive from Waterbury CT which is a fairly large city for restaurants and shopping. The campground itself has a large swimming pool and rec hall.
While I would not necessarily reccommend Branch Brook CG to other travellers, if what you are looking for is a quiet place to stop the night, and you bring most of the amenities with you, it is an adequate facility.

My husband and I are full timers and spend the summers at Branch Brook Campground. It is a family owned park with approximately 60 sites. The owners are extremely pleasant and very accomodating to
make your visit enjoyable. Each site is very well maintained and has full hook-ups. Each camp site is more than ample in size. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere as most campers are pleasant.
We enjoy this area as it is very close to larger cities; Waterbury, Litchfield, Bristol, Torrington are only 15 minutes away. Lots to do in the area.
We enjoy the smaller campgrounds for the friendly and close knit atmosphere. We would recommend Branch Brook to anyone looking for one night or long term camping. We look forward to returning next summer.
