Checklists for Hikers
* These checklists are generic, use discretion depending on the area you will be hiking in taking into consideration weather conditions, terrain and accessibility to populated areas
Day Hikes;
*Some items on this list (extra food, extra clothing, water purification) are precautionary against the situation where you may be spending an extended time on your hike due to unforseen difficulties

__ - water (at least 2 quarts)
__ - canteen
__ - water purification tablets (or filtration pump)
__ - whistle
__ - first aid kit
__ - food for at least 2 days
__ - 1 set warm clothing
__ - water proof matches
__ - electric lantern (extra set of batteries)
__ - walking stick
Overnight and multi day Hikes;
__ - Sleeping bag
__ - Sleeping pad
__ - *Tent
__ - Rain gear
__ - Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, environmentally friendly soap and shampoo, biodegradable toilet paper, wash cloth and towel)
__ - Bug repellent
__ - compass
__ - area map
__ - water (at least 2 quarts per day, refilled each morning)
__ - 2 canteens
__ - water purification tablets (or filtration pump)
__ - whistle
__ - first aid kit
__ - food for the number of days you plan on hiking and then at least 2 days extra food for unforseen difficulties
__ - Quick snacks for energy on the trail
__ - Food bag which can be hung away from animals
__ - warm clothing
__ - Sneakers or sandals (there is nothing worse than wearing your hiking boots for a number of days with nothing else to put on, especially if they get wet)

__ - Camp stove
__ - Cookware
__ - Eating utensils
__- Camera and film to record those special memories
